Joan Laporta reaffirms the essence and Catalanness of Barça at an event in Vic

The precandidate meets with members in Vic to explain the «Defensem el Barça» candidacy, which seeks to give continuity and consolidate the mandate that began in 2021

Vic, February 20, 2026.– Joan Laporta met this afternoon in Vic with Barça members to explain the «Defensem el Barça» candidacy that he leads ahead of the elections next Sunday, March 15. The precandidate explained the keys that have allowed the recovery of the Club since the beginning of the mandate in 2021 in sporting, economic and social terms, although he wanted to highlight in his speech the uniqueness of the Club and the link with its essences. «I am proud to be able to represent an institution like Barça, open to the world, fully committed to democracy, freedom, Catalonia, and its language and culture.» Laporta reaffirmed «the essence of Barça» as «more than a club» as an institution involved in sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion, «with a Foundation that puts solidarity at the service of the people who need it most and contributes to making a better world».

Laporta also stressed in Vic that Barça «cannot be understood without its ownership model», in reference to the fact that members are its owners, and has emerged as a «guarantor» that this model prevails: «Barça is an institution admired, respected and loved all over the world, but we must not forget that in the first place we owe ourselves to the members of the Club».

«Defensem el Barça» is presented as a proposal of continuity, stability and ambition to consolidate a strong, sustainable, competitive Barça, with a clear vision of the future. In this sense, the candidacy led by Joan Laporta puts one of the main focuses on consolidating a modern and high-level governance model, and for which the world’s leading business schools have already shown interest in studying it. This model, as Laporta explained, «allows Barça to be more efficient, digitized and adapted to the new times.»
