Joan Laporta presents “This Is How We Saved Barça”, his first-person account of the club’s recent years

Joan Laporta presented on Monday, February 23, the book This Is How We Saved Barça: A First-Person Chronicle of the Club’s Recent Years, a work in which he revisits the most delicate moments of his second spell at the helm of the club.

Published by Ara Llibres, the volume stems from a series of conversations with writer and journalist Josep Maria Fonalleras, who co-authors the book alongside the Blaugrana president. The book offers a first-hand account of key episodes such as Leo Messi’s departure, LaLiga’s financial fair play restrictions, the activation of the well-known economic “levers,” changes on the bench, and the push to renovate the Spotify Camp Nou.

Laporta also addresses the financial situation he inherited in 2021 and the process of institutional and sporting reconstruction, with particular emphasis on restoring the first team’s competitiveness and backing emerging talent from La Masia.

The work blends institutional narrative with personal reflection. Through his dialogue with Fonalleras, the president discusses complex decisions and moments of intense pressure, providing an insider’s view of the club’s management in what the book describes as a “continuous obstacle course”. In its pages, Laporta reaffirms the sporting model inspired by Johan Cruyff and the bond between Barça and Catalonia as key pillars of his project
